Living Room Lighting

The living room of any home is the area that most imagination can be used in the lighting arrangements. There are no rules as such in this situation and the result really depends on the use of the room.

We term the living room as the family room that see everyday use and will act as an entertainment room for visitors. Our definition of the lounge is one of use almost exclusively for visitors, akin to what was known more quaintly in older Ireland as the sitting room.

Most homes in Ireland today do not have what is termed a lounge – the living room or family room serving both functions admirably. The building boom that drove prices of homes through the roof saw to it that there was little economic reason to have a room that was idle practically all of the time.

A central light, aided by a mixture of casual and informal stand-alone lighting works best.

Table-top lighting is most prevalent in this room, allowing the room to achieve understated ambience by their use. Dimmer switches add the capacity to change the character of the room depending on the occasion.

Picture lighting is a very effective means of constituting a theme for the room as well as giving off diminished lighting.
