Entrance gate lighting is usually a relatively simple matter if the driveway to the house is not too great a length.
Installation of gate lights can be done in conjunction with driveway lighting infrastructure and, therefore, done in such a way need not be too much of an additional expense.
Lantern lighting on top of entrance gate piers is common in Ireland. This is the preferred method with new build homes as all the fittings can be encompassed in the core of the pier.
A common mistake with entrance gate lighting is to install low wattage lighting. Whilst too strong of lights will give off an unseemly glare, if you have a security camera system at your gate, which many Irish homes have these days, low wattage output can negate the effect of the camera. Infra red camera equipment will help overcome this problem but the more light the better at entrance gates.
